Originally, system would not boot and fans did not run. Discovered Hard Drive 12 DC at HD side of power connector shorted (hard) to ground. Need to recover data from Hard Drive. The drive is a WD WD5000AAKS model. Suspect short is on the I/O Board mounted on the Hard Drive. And suspect the actual disk and data are OK. What to do? Find another old drive and replace I/O Board? Any Help?

"Find another old drive and replace I/O Board?"
Other then spending a few hundred to have the data recovered by a co that does dead HD data recovery replacing the PCB board is your only chance of getting it to work at home long enough to recover the data.
