Hi

I have a minor problem after upgrading to 98SE.

I had "Users" set up in 98, and although they still exist after the upgrade, I do not get the option to choose one on bootup, ie it goes straight in as if no users have been selected.

After this I can log-off and re-log on as a user, which works fine, but slows the whole process down somewhat.

I have looked in all the user settings and cannot see anything obvious which would solve this problem.

Any ideas would be most gratefully received.

Gary.

Hello & welcome to BC,where questions are as informative as answers.
Do you still want user a/c's,or would you prefer to delete them and go
to default setting?Whatever, explore your computer MY COMPUTER-/
EXPLORE look for folder USERS in Windows.Go into the BIOS and # it
out, there are options to change USER a/c's.Note the settings for the
future reference before changing any.Restore the DEFAULTS if you
want, record changes on the way out.Exactly what is it you wish to
change?

Hi Deodar

Thanks for your reply.

What I would like ideally is not to have "Users" but for the PC to start up automatically using the settings I currently have in one of the "Users".

I guess the obvious solution would be to delete all the users and re-set up all the settings on the default login, but I have tried this and had problems with the internet account etc.

Therefore if I could make it login automatically to one of the users (there is no password) that would be ideal.

BTW, your reply states "Go into the BIOS and # it
out, there are options to change USER a/c's". Sorry I,m not sure what that means. Could you please explain it for the benefit of a novice!

Many thanks

Gary.

gjd,hi I think I get ya,you want windows to simply log on at start up?OK,you need
tweak UI,which is on the CD.if you want heaps of information about 98,98se&ME
try this link.&look at the bottom three items to address your problem.
http://www.compu-help.us/ME14.htm getting access to the BIOS is done by
watching the computer as it boots,it will say (' do this.')press F12 'to enter setup.'
The bios page is clearly marked and accessible this way,and many fine tuning
tweaks and solutions are possible in there.A good idea is to print every page
to keep a record of the original settings, should you ever change them and then
need to restore the defaults. On the way out of the Bios pass through the CMOS
where any changes are recorded for system recognition.Interest in BIOS is wether
you need a password to gain access,or set one by following the prompts. The default password is often USER,depending on the type.
