If you suspect a virus then click the link below and post in the Am I Infected section of this forum and let them find out what virus it is and try to clean it. The majority of viruses can be cleaned and if not, then you just reformat and reinstall.

If the modem is bad, replace it.
If the system has a virus...take steps to get help for removing such.
