I work from home a lot and need some good encryption software, preferably free. The files I need to encrypt are .txt and .doc files that contain sensitive, privledged information from my company and, since I don't work for the Department of Veteran's Affairs, my company would rather the whole internet not have the contents. I was thinking of PGP at first, but I don't need to email the files, just store them on my local harddrive with some type of secure password encryption. Thanks.

Did you look at any of the suggested options here: Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps Scroll down to the heading of 'File Encryption', there are 4 options for you to choose from.
