Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

I've tried both Virtual Box in Linux and VMPlayer in Vista & found the Linux system more integrated. I used Mint4Win which is similar to Ubuntu within Windows.
Simple googles will show what I'm ref. to if you're interested or I can post links if you'd prefer?

I went with Wubi for my first try. Really easy and no partioning needed. Full info here
http://wubi-installer.org/
all that takes the time is the download unless you have Ubuntu disc? If you have and you start it in Windows choose the 'run inside Windows' option which is Wubi.

When I had a laptop with less than 256 I couldn't find any - maybe someone else here can help?
You could run Puppy Linux from disc though. It has a clever trick of saving some settings in RAM after you intitially set it up. You then boot it from the bootable cd and once it's running you can remove the disc and carry on with what you are doing. This might be something to try ... no need to install it though.
