I have a very old Samsung Combo SM-304B cd burner, and the problem is that when I turn on my pc, the system doesn't boots until I open the drive, If I don't do this, the pc stays in this state and the light of the drive keeps flashing. Anoher problem I have with this drive is that it doesn't recognize any blank cds, it stays "reading" it a lot of time and nothing happens. This only happens with the blank cds.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Rarehunter,
I have seen this problem with older systems we had. I think it is caused by a timing issue between the CD drive and the hard drive. Take a look and see if the burner is on the same cable as your primary hard drive. (This will be the wide cable - 40 or 80 pins - usually gray) You can try placing it on the secondary IDE channel/connection on your motherboard. You may or may not have an existing cable depending on the age of your system - and its maker. Lastly, you may have to replace the drive. As far as the reading issue, try a cleaning CD to clean the optical head.
I hope this helps

Hi thanks for your reply!
Well I don't try this yet but I don't thik that this will fix the problem because this problem appeared a week ago and this never happened before. But thanks anyway!
