BleepingComputer.com: being billed by integretel inc.

Hi there,
I just received my new phone bill for June and there is a charge from Integretel inc for $40.00 for a two minute call to the Netherlands. Through a little research I believe that Itegretel is a collection company used by porn sites to collect fees. They seem to get a lot of similar complaints. I am wondering if anybody can offer advice and info on this matter. Also i am interested in avoiding repeating this problem.
I run XP and i use Norton, windows firewall, add-aware, and i am familiar with spy-ware and viruses. I would like to post my hijack log and see if the culprit is still present.
As stated, I have done a little research on integretel and am prepared to do more. I may be off base with my theories, because I am posting this just minutes after reading my phone bill. I just want as much info as possible.
Please let me know if any other info is needed.

You seem to have a "dialer" making calls to 900 numbers. It is a scam.

Posting a hijack this log would be the best and most immediate thing to do. In the meantime, unplug your modem from the telephone line when you aren't using it.

Are you on dialup or broadband? Hopefully broadband so you can leave the phone line disconnected.

i am using dial up. i have a second line for the pc. should i pay the 40 bucks that they say i owe for 2 minutes?

I would call your phone company and complain though.

By the way, use a firewall that will protect against outgoing threats as well as incoming. The firewall that comes with Win XP doesn't protect against outgoing trojans, dialers or phone homes. The Zone Alarm program would have warned you when the dialer started up. After you install and set up one of the following, or another of your choice, disable the Windows firewall as running more than one at a time will cause a conflict.

thanks enthu, i'll let you know what happens on mon. Since a month has passed since i got this bill, i am afraid there might be an even higher charge on my next one. can anyone explain how these dialer work and why?
