I have a laptop that is dying after almost 5 years, but the HD (Toshiba HDD2171, 40 GB) appears to be OK. I get power to the laptop, it just boots up intermittently. If I buy a hard drive enclosure, how do I know it's compatible with my hard drive? Are all laptop HD connections standard? Exactly how do they work...if I pull the HD, does it connect directly into to the enclosure?
Thanks for your help in advance.

You want an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive
It's best to get one with it's own power supply, but not necessary
