Desktop icons dissapear on startup

I don't know why this happens but every time I restart my computer the desktop icons disappear. I can enable the desktop icons again by right clicking and then selecting "show desktop icons" but it's constantly annoys me when I have to do that. Is there any way I can fix this problem?
