BleepingComputer.com: The application failed to initalize properly (0XC000012D). need some help, Can someone offer some advice.

I have been advised that I need to post my post into this forum.

I have 2 issues which I could really do with some guidence on.

Issue 1

When leaving my machine of for a period of time I get this error:

"THe application failed to initalize propoerly (0XC000012D) click on OK to terminate."

This error occours on all applications I try and run so I have to reboot.

From looking on a few other forums and other peoples posts this error is usually down to RAM failure or to many SCVHOST.EXE

I have downloaded Memtest86+ 2.11 and run it. My RAM passed.
So i assume my ram is all ok.


I have run:
Norton 360 full - all clean
PC tools Spyware Doctor - all clean
SDFIX - all clean
spybot serach and destory - all clean

also I have run the following in command prompt I make sure that all dll and ocx permisions are ok.

CACLS %systemroot%\System32\*.dll /E /G BUILTIN\Users:R
CACLS %systemroot%\System32\*.ocx /E /G BUILTIN\Users:R

I have downloaded Process Explorer which I have read can help me identify which processes are going wrong to cause my error.

I am not sure how to use this program to diagnose/fix my error, so some help would be great.
How do I use Process Explorer to diagnose which SCVHOST.EXE is causing the problem?

Issue 2

My PC freezes when the black screen with the XP logo is fading in. I can kinda see a faded XP logo, but it doesnt shift from this screen. (this first XP screen with the blue status bar at the bottom)
This only happens ever so often but i have to turn off and on again. Can anyone help with this error too.

Q6600 @2.40Ghz P35/G33
3.25 GB of Ram (333hmz (ddr666)
OS Microsoft XP Professional SP3

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:

• Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • DDS.scr
    
  • DDS.pif
  
  
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  
• A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  
• Notepad will open with the results.
  
• Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I have attached the DDS report. I have not had an 0XC000012D error in a while. I think i have resolved this issue as I reinstalled the audio driver with the latest one and I think this has resolved it.

For the other issue, still happens ever so often.

Also my PC just freezes if left on for a long time.

Doesn't sound like malware and there isn't anything coming up on the logs but let's do a double-check.

We need to scan for Rootkits with GMER

• Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop, please rename it as gamer.exe.
  • Main Mirror
    This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
    
  • Zip Mirror
    This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  
  
• Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  
• Double click or on your desktop.
  
• Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  
• You may see this window. If you do, click No.
  
  
• Click on and wait for the scan to finish.
  
• If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  
• Push and save the logfile to your desktop.
  
• Copy and Paste the contents of that file in your next post.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  
• Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application or, if you are using Vista, right-click and select Run As Administrator on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  
  
• Then click Finish.
  
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  
• On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  
  
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

Finally let's run an online scan.

• ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.

• Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

As I said, not likely to find anything but it's always good to check these things out.

Is this is all clear, are you still able to help? Or will this be a config issue and not for this section?

It's likely that this is not malware. I can't say for 100% until you've run the above scans though.

I have just tried the GMER and I got a blue screen, (twice tried it 2 times)

Got a stop error of 0XC000005, 0X654B6575, OXEE4F37E4, 0X0000000)

I am going to download the other checker and see if this finds anything.

My PC has been freezing now. No errors just nothing will open etc.

This is looking like a system issue now but ESET should confirm that.

I am at work currently. I will be at home after 6pm I will run it then.

I have run several other online scans, (Kaspersky Lab ) and they came up with nothing.

Okay, I will call it a day when the ESET scan comes back clean.

found 2. deleted after quarantine.

Will this cause crashing.
IE8 has been freezing etc.

Can yo help

I attempted to upgrade to vista, will that cure the problems with the opp systems, slowness and crashing

One was in SDFix's folder. The other was in Internet Explorer and Trojan Fake Alert can cause crashes as it installs files into IE.

MBAM does detect its main files and it didn't which means that was a leftover.

Reboot your computer, azrael1983 and let me know if the crashing continues.
