hey guys
i got the IDE ASUS DRW-1814BL
i just got ubuntu linux
so am thinking of trying the lightscribe
(i uesd to have win me and the lightscribe drivers would not install on win 9x)

but i heard people having problems with this drive
like burning one lightscribe disk and then the drive dying
so am woulding if any one here has the drive and have burnt lightscribe disk
and can you tell me how many lightscribe cds you brurnt? also what firmware you got ?


it burns cd ,dvd , dvd dl fine
and thats why am worried becasue i need a drive to burn my stuff


also i see theirs a update for the drive(firmware)
is it needed ?

Id say forget what people say and go ahead and try it, your not going to know for sure till you do. even if it does die, DVD writers are a dime a dozen out there, I picked up my last one (with lightscribe) for 20 bucks-thats with shipping.

Make sure you have lightscribe disks, NOT just regular DVD disks .
OCZ StealthXstream 700W,Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R , E8500, Arctic Freezer Pro 7, 3GB G.Skill PC8500,Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 OC [1GB ], Seagate 250GB SATA II X2 in RAID 0, Samsung SATA DVD burner.

yes i know that lol

any way should i update the firmware ?
all it said it does is improve burning quality

ok i just got some lightscribe cds
brunt two cds one with a bit of text and the other with a picture of a bird
the drive is still working :thumbsup:
hopfully it will stay that way :flowers:
