In going through the formatting windows xp article the authors needs me to identify the type of drive (sata or ide) I have. The disk management tool provided does not work. Any other ideas on how I might accomplish this?

I have a few questions after reading the tutorial you suggested:

1)The author said to have antispyware/virus ready to go. How do I do that? Can I copy it from my computer now?
2)If I have the OS disk that came with my pc, does it have drivers on it, or do I need to get them beforehand?

Sorry for the noob questions but I am terrified about doing this Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it!

Other questions:

Author said I will need Service Pack 2. Since my redirect problem is still here, can anyone send me a link to download it? I assume download direct to a disc or usb? Also, how do I connect to the internet after my reformat? Do I have to have IE or firefox files saved somewhere?

Thanks

What is this disk you refer to?

Is it a Microsoft XP install CD...a restore/recovery CD furnished by Dell, Compaq, etc...what is it?

The previous post indicated that you were to do a clean install.

You can open the system...remove the hard drive...and see whether it's PATA or SATA. They have dissimilar connectors and cables and all the SATA cables I've seen are red.
