Just curious.

I have seen the terms Crack web sites and Keygen web sites referred to a few times on the Am I Infected Forum.

Could someone please explain what they are ?

Thanks for your time,

Dennis

I presume these threads are discussing the effects OF finding yourswelf on such sites?

This information
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking

is available via a google search

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...earch&meta=

Quote

Software cracking is the modification of software to remove protection methods: copy protection, trial/demo version, serial number, hardware key, date checks, CD check or software annoyances like nag screens and adware. The distribution and use of cracked copies is illegal in almost every developed country.

This too you may find informative

needless to say NONE of this is recommended and CAN lead to infections and, if you read the articles, proscecutions and worse .............

I will also add; keep well away from ANYTHING like this

if in any doubt about ANY site, do not open it .......

Crack web sites are some of the most dangerous ones you can ever visit. All you have to do is open the web page and if you have any vulnerabilites you are infected.

I don't even trust FireFox and noscript that much anymore

Thanks to all for the information.

I will never get on one of those sites. I had the feeling they were bad news. I did a Google search before posting but did not see the information that you posted snowdrop. Thanks for the links.

Dennis :inlove:

you are most welcome Dennis and glad I found information useful for/to you

such sites are most definitly 'bad news' which includes but is by no means limited to having your computer 'taken over' by 'unwanted guests', if you do on-line banking(?) finding your Bank balance 'vanishing', your personal details not so personal any more ...

the possibility of finding yourself in trouble with the Law , imprisonment ...and more

I hope that anyone who reads this thread will take heed of the warnings it containes...............

safe surfing Dennis (and anyone who reads this ) :trumpet: :flowers:
