When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix logs. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

Hey guys! I'm back again. I"ve got bad news. Recently after several updates on my F-Secure, it had detected and quarantined a new virus.

It is known as "Trojan-Downloader.Win32.FraudLoad.epn" and has been known as a high-risk. Or whatever. Apparently, the path of the file was detected "C:\Windows\System32\msxml71.0ll"

Is this the start of a terrible virus? blink.gif

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Firzan

Hi Firzan,

This is picked up by the Kaspersky online scan, so let's start with the following. First a cleaner to get rid of any temp files that could restart the infection, then a standard scan we use here and then the Kaspersky.

I recommend that you additionally do the following:

Step 1: ATF Cleaner

If you're running XP, please run ATF cleaner according to the following instructions. If you're using Vista, right-click on the icon and select "run as Administrator".

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

Step 2: MalwareBytes

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
MalwareBytes

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable security programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Step 3: Updating your Java

The newest Java download and installation should remove old versions of Java. Check add/remove programs after you run the installation to see if this was the case.

Please go to Current Java Download and do the following:
    * Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)JRE 6 Update 14.
    * Click the "Download" button to the right.
    * Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
    * Click on Continue.
    * Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
    * Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    * Double-click on the Java installation program on your desktop and allow it to install the newest version.(Vista users, right click on the jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe and select "Run as an Administrator.")

Step 4: Next I would like for you to run an online scan called Kaspersky Webscanner

To run this scan, your Java needs to be up-to-date, you may need to install additional plug-ins, and you will need to disable any antivirus program you have running. Here is a link that will help you determine how to disable your particular antivirus program:

How to Temporarily Disable your Anti-virus, Firewall and Anti-Malware Programs

To start the online scan, click on the magnifying glass and then on accept.
A database will be installed on your computer
Then run the full scan
Copy the report into your next post.

Step 5: Please post the logs or reports for the following:
    MalwareBytes
    Kaspersky Online Scan

Let me know how this went?
