Hi everybody,
I have an Acer Aspire 5810TZ-4657 running Vista (32 bit) and Realtek HD Audio. My mic was working fine until today when I tried to use it on Skype and it gave me a message stating that the sound couldn't be detected. I've uninstalled and updated drivers, looked at all the settings. I've even done a system restore and it still doesn't work. The crazy thing is that it shows that everything is in working condition (it's not muted, the boost is on, the volume is turned up) and an external mic plugged into the jack works also. It's just the built in one. I have no idea why it shows as working and I would appreciate any ideas on what to do next. I'm not totally clueless about computers so I can find my way around. I called tech support and they said I may have to do a system reset to factory settings but I don't want to do that unless I have to. I did google it and saw some people who had the same prob but no one ever posts their solutions.

Have you tried any other programs besides skype to see if the mic is working, or if it's just skype? You can try using windows sound recorder.
