Hi Need urgent assistance!!! PLEASE

Last night Windows Vista Home d/load new updates - IE 8 and I uninstalled Avast anti virus and put on PC Tools anti virus. It wanted me to restart which I did and now when it boots up it freezes on the screen 'Please Wait' the circle keeps spinning and acts like it is thinking but nothing. I have tried booting in Safe
mode with and without networking and with the command prompt - all with the same outcome.

This Acer is pretty new, last month or so, not sure of exact specs, but I don't even have the option to repair vista or restore from a previous config. Only options I get are the Safe Mode ones and Start windows Normally.

The Computer came pre loaded with Vista Home and hence I don't seem to have the disks. I know that normally the backup of vista is on the partition drive but how do I get to it if I cannot load into Windows? I need to fix this as its not my computer and feeling extremely guilty!!!

Please if you respond not to difficult indepth tech answers I know a little but not good with fiddling with the inside of the comp....

Thanks Anything would be GREAT!!!!!

Hi  Did the computer owner ask you to uninstall the Avast and what method did you use to uninstall it?

Yes was asked to uninstall it. I used the Add/remove program option as there was no Uninstall program in the Avast directory.
Have found out with ACER computers I need to press ALT F10 when the ACER logo comes up to enter into the System Restore feature I will try this and have my fingers crossed.

ok fixed this problem with ACER's press F2 on start-up which brings up the option for the Advanced options so you can restore to a earlier point.
