I infrequently post, but am often able to diagnose and resolve issues with the tremendously useful discussions on bleeping computer... Thanks! Desktop Specs: OS: Win XP Pro SP2 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Mobo: ??? (not identified by device manager/pc wizard/belarc/everest) Display adapter: NVDIA GeForce 9600T System HDD: WD 37 GB 10,000 RPM (raptor, I think) Storage HDD: WD 160 GB 7,200 RPM Wireless adapter: Trendnet TEW-421/TEW-423PI 802.11g Router: Buffalo Technology Wireless-G High Speed Router (BTH WHRG125) I am having intermittent boot failures, which "hang" on the splash screen (full color XP logo with progress bar beneath it) but do not "freeze" (i.e. progress bar continues to cycle, but boot no longer advances) I am also having intermittent wireless connectivity problems ("the connection has limited or no connectivity") while a laptop sitting next to the desktop connects continuously... when experiencing the problem, ipconfig shows what i think is the default windows ip address (different from what the laptop shows) and/or "media not connected"... ping shows total loss of data packets when experiencing the problem. I also get "dwwin.exe: the application has failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down" error every time i shut down. So far, I've run ccleaner (cleaner & registry tool), atf cleaner, nod32, S&D, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, jv16 powertools (registry cleaner & compactor), and PerfectDisk (defrag)... HJT logfile below... I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice from non qualified members, whether well meaning or not. Prior to posting a log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system. Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you can't perform a step, then skip it and continue with the next. In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create a Psuedo HJT Report as part of its log. When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Prep Guide to post a new log. The Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. Please be patient.
