HERE is a link showing someone who has a VERY similar problem to mine (just they have their stuff a bit more organized).
I have a dsl internet connection and all was fine yesterday. This morning, I got up to play WoW and it seemed really laggy and it wasn't long before I realized it was me and not the server.
First, I'll tell you about the layout of my connection. I don't know the difference between a modem or a router, but this setup is the one i've always ised and it has always worked fine.
I have a "phone cord" (smaller head than ethernet" attatched to jack on my wall. This "phone cord" goes to router 1 (R1). R1 has a dsl input (where my "phone cord" goes), a power input, an un-used usb port, and an ethernet port that I put an ethernet cord in to connect R1 to router 2 (R2). R2 is now connected to the internet right? well, R2 has a power input, a "Main Ethernet" port (where R1 connects to to share it's internet), and 4 additional ethernet ports to "split" the connection however I want (whether it be to my xbox [which is broken] or to more computers.) I have 2 additional ethernet cords runnung from R2 to PC1 and PC2. PC1 has always been slow because it is a weak computer. PC2 has always been fast. Now, PC2's internet speed is faster than PC1's.
So I opened up firefox 3.0.11and ie8 but my internet connection was awkward to say the least. Websites, whenever I browsed to one, displayed only half the time. Meaning, whenever a webpage did display, it took forever to do it... but half of the time ie8 just said "Internet cannot display the webpage" and firefox said "Page load error; address not found"
At first, I thought it was simply in need of a power cycle, but it didn't solve anything.
back on PC1, the internet worked great. so i figured it was the cord that was the problem. So i got new cords but this solved nothing once again.
the next thing i tried was cutting out R2, meaning i plugged the internet straight to R1 then to PC2 (rather than Internet, R1, R2, split to pc1 &2).
It still fixed nothing. i ran dsl speed tests from a website and i got like 1.5 mB/s down and 500kb/s up. i went to 192.168.1.1 and my statistics showed that my connection was UP and this:
restarting the computer didn't work,
my connection is set up properly, but i cannot browse to any webpage i want. it even only finds google half of the time.
if anyone has ever had this problem, or knows how to fix it, could you give me a solution?
