How to get XP to recognize a default mail program?

I need to get this frapping copy of Windows XP to use GMail as my default mail program for all mail links.

How do I do it?

Using Firefox 3:

1. Go to Tools -> Options.
2. Click on Applications tab icon.
3. Locate and click to highlight mailto Content Type, and at the corresponding drop down box of Action, select Use GMail.
4. Click OK.
