My IE, version 6, opens to the home page for a few seconds then a secondary window opens saying “Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc.” with a box for restart MIE and send error report/dont send boxes. After 2 to 3 times, IE seems to settle for a time. Other times, a Program Error window pops up, such as “ Winword.exe (or mshta.exe or mbam.exe) has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. An error log is being created”. Occasionally, my computer restart without warning. I have Windows 2000, version 5. Outlook Express lost all my E-mails and addresses several times. My files seem to be all right. I tried disk defragmenter, shutting down completely for a day, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot- Search & Destroy and Ad-aware (which disappeared after) without success. Help please!

Since my original posting, I tried to download Avast, AVG and Ad-aware withou success. Each time I received a failure or error msg.
