Hi I have an old Dell Demension XPS 8733, good old solid machine that is my back up tower. I just picked up a new copy XP with SP3, does anyone know if the dell requires using the Dell disks? I do have the old disks with no SP3, but I would like to use the new set. My concern would be any Dell specific drivers!

The downloads for all the Dell machines are here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/ .
I don't see an XPS8733 listed, perhaps it is listed under a different format model number.
The Dell disks are pure OS disks keyed to the machines bios. A retail OS will load just fine and all the drivers should be available from the above site.

I had an old compac, and the disk that was provided with it was a 'recovery disk'. Dell has always provided a true OS disk.
