BleepingComputer.com: upgrading processor

I've been using a Dell poweredge sc420 as a desktop for some years. The machine suits me, I feel no need to buy a new computer. The processor is an Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz. I'm thinking about putting in an Intel Pentium 4 3.8ghz. Is it possible? Would I see any change in performance? Thanks, Ron

First off, depending on the specific tasks you usually use your computer for will determine if you'll see a big improvement. If you do light surfing on the internet, email, listening to music, word processing, casual things like that, you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference. If you are playing games, or running newer and more sophisticated applications, then you may see an improvement, however it wouldn't be exactly a big improvement. Also, the price of the new processor is a factor into deciding if its worth it.

Are you sure it's the right socket too? I'm pretty sure your system is socket 478. The processor must also be a socket 478 processor or it won't fit.
