I'm using Win98SE with IE6.0 not SP1 at the moment because that caused a lot of errors last time. When I'm browsing I get the error message that it wants to send to M$, I don't bother sending it. I've done a web search and a search on M$ for this problem but very little shows up for Win98SE. Now I had WinME installed the other week which I didn't like again but thats another story. I saved the Oleaut32.dll and Kernel32.dll thinking I could use them in Win98SE as they are both similar systems. After I kept having these IE errors I decided to put these files in my system which as to be done from DOS because they are being used by Windows. After replacing the files and backing up the original ones my computer wouldn't start up at all. No particular error message just its now safe to turn off your computer. After my rebuild it showed an error with mshtml.dll with iexplore.exe so I decided to extract mshtml.dll from the SP1 cabs and I put that that in a registered it. Now I don't have a problem with mshtml.dll errors. I know what most of you are going to suggest, FireFox or Opera but forget it. I'm happy with IE6.0 when its working ok. Thanks for you help. Further research bring up that M$ do a Mcrepair.exe (I downloaded this file a long time ago) that updates Oleaut32.dll but when I run it it says that Oleaut32.dll is an older version do you what to update I say no.

reinstalling java flash and those other things may help parhaps you got some activex on or some thing scan for spyware and virus I've never installed Java on its own so I don't know if its in there. There is a Java folder in Windows but I've never needed to use it. The only ActiveX's that run are the ones I use while programming. I have Process Explorer 10.21 installed so that will tell me what processes are running in the background and there is nothing. I don't have any spyware installed. I've done a full virus check and nothing shows up. -------------------- Keith

Update MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) to version 2.8 after installing IE 6 SP1.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Kernel32.dll for Windows ME has many new functions and has removed some older functions compared to that for Win98, so replacing it in Win98 will always crash Windows 98. -------------------- |

Update MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) to version 2.8 after installing IE 6 SP1. Thanks Romeo but I do install MDAC2.8 SP1 because I write programmes. I may try IE6.0 SP1 which I normally install after a rebuild. I haven't installed it yet because I don't like certain features it implements. It used to crash IE6.0 before with the Oleaut32.dll and Kernal32.dll errors thats why I did a rebuild 2 weeks ago. mabye its time for a reformat keithuk I don't think so, as I've said about this above I only did this 2 weeks ago. Actually it wasn't a format I just deleted Windows\Program Files and the Recycle folders. This is because I have loads of large files in other drives that I didn't have time to burn to CD's. Thank you both for your suggestions. -------------------- Keith

Ok update.
I installed IE6.0 SP1 3 days ago and at the moment I haven't received any Oleaut32.dll or Kernel32.dll errors. Now I know I've had these errors before with SP1 but we will have to wait and see what happens. Thanks guys. -------------------- Keith

if it comes back just get opera:) I've had Opera 9.64 and Firefox 2.0.0.20 installed a while ago for a trial. I didn't like either of them. The only slight advantage with Firefox is you can import all your favorites into Firefox that all. I didn't see that option in Opera. We will have to wait and see what happens. -------------------- Keith
