Office 97

Is office 97 compatible with Windows XP. I don't want to install if will crash my computer but don't have the $$ to buy a later version. thanks. :thumbsup:

Open Office

I think office 97 will be OK, but if you need an upgrade check out Open Office it's freeware and will do most taks that Office will do.

Yes Office 97 will run on Win XP. If you have the SP2 upgrade, you might have to
unintall it to load the Office 97. Just be sure to reinstall the SP2 afterwards.

I also agree with stidyup about the "Open Office" freeware.
I've just begun to use it and like it a lot.
The only easy day was yesterday.

I have to agree about using Open Office as opposed to Windows, even more so if you are thinking about using Office97, unless you regularly use many macros for spreadsheets.
First, OO.o, will have many new enhancements you will not have with Office97; second, OO.o may well turn out to be more compatible with later versions of Office than 97; third, OO.o already will save documents and spreadsheets in XML formats, which is what the next version of MS Office will use. Fourth, it is free, and will offer new versions as often as MS.
