BleepingComputer.com: Getting Disconnected from Internet

Hello , recently my Computer keeps getting disconnected randomly.

Sometimes it will get disconnect , when im browsing the net .

My programs such as the MSN and other online games will get disconnected then it will auto reconnect after a while .

I used both Internet Explorer and Fire fox but still it keeps getting disconected .

I've tried searching other posts but could not find a answer to it .

I called my ISP and they reseted my network .

I manually reseted the router .

Reformated the comp .

I have /release and /renew .

I Checked Services.msc , dns client is started.

My comp is connected to the ethernet cable and theres 2 laptop connecting to the wireless network and they are both working fine .

Hi, have you tried replacing the ethernet cable to your PC? Have you updated your ethernet/chipset driver? What is the make and model number of the PC?

Hi , thanks for the reply . I have replaced the eternet cable to my pc and the driver is the latest version . I'm not really sure what you are asking for but heres some information that I know .

try this step when you get disconnected
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

If it reconnects your internet, catch hold of your ISP because its a problem at their end

Hi, have you tried to upgrade the firmware on the router? What make and model is it?

yes im using D-Link DIR-655 model currently and i had already upgrade the firmware

What is your sequence of wiring?

I had the same trouble for years and years then I got the answer. Here is my story and you can see if it relates to yours.

As you may or may not know your modem should be connected to the telephone master socket (ie. the socket that the actual telephone wire coming in from the outside is connected to).
Originally I had an ADSL cable (30 mtrs) running from my master socket running upstairs to my modem then a short wire from the modem to the PC. It worked but it was WRONG. For years I had random disconnections and not being able to connect. Frustrating but I came to live with it.

Anyway, what I should have done was to connect the modem to the master socket with the short wire supplied with the modem then using the correct cable (CAT5E STRAIGHT RJ45 NETWORK CABLE) to connect the modem to the PC.

Never been disconnected since!

Apparently the reasoning behind this is, the signal that runs between the master socket and the modem is very prone to outside interference (such as unsurpressed car/motorbike engines etc) leading to random disconnection so this cable (supplied) should be as short as possible. However, the signal that runs between the modem and the PC can run on whatever length of cable you need without problems.

Hi , thanks for the reply . I Just found out that whenever i get disconnected , the panel lights on my SB6100 cable modem willl get turned off and it shows that i can only receive data . the Send , Online and Pc/activtyy panel lights will be not on till the connection goes back . im always getting disconnected , and have to wait several mins before the connection is back . Is this because my modem , router , or eternet cable is faulty ? I have changed the ethernet cable several times but the problem remains.

If you suspect the modem to be faulty, contact your ISP and have them replace it (assuming you're using theirs). Afterall, you're paying for their service and they should send someone out to look at it and replace the hardware if they determine it necessary.

OK so somebody stole my problem! I'm on my 5Th cable modem , 3rd network cable, I've had six Charter Cable service calls and they ran a new drop wire from the pole. My first sign of the problem is the message telling me that my network cable is unplugged. At one time or another I've tried all the suggested fixes. When I run Network Diagnostics show failure at Realtek PCIeBE Family Controller going down the list next is DNS Servers failed server search order. The Gigabyte M.B. GA-EP45-DS3R has two RJ-45 lan ports using 2 X 8111C chips for which I changed the drivers everytime I find another newer one.So far I have seen no changes whatever! By the way if I just leave everything alone the connection fixes itself, sometimes 2mins, sometimes 20 mins. The best way I can cause the problem to occure is to start downloading something.
