Installing vista 64bit upgrade over xp

hi i am soon to be buying a new computer, i have a full working version of xp on cd from my old pc which i was going to install on my new computer then purchase the 64bit upgrade as my computer spec is

Asrock K10N78
600w PSU
AMD QUAD 10.4Ghz PHENOM 9950
8GB DDR2 1066
750GB

i was told i would need vista 64 bit as 32 bit does not registar over 4 gig, so is it possiqable to use a existing copy of windows xp home and install vista over it many thanks in advance

I don't see why that would be a problem. Just make sure that you have a valid Vista license (CD key and the works) because the XP CD-Key can't be carried over the vista (if that's what you meant)
