Important Announcement: We have two terrific contests running on the site that I wanted all our members and guests to know about.

The first contest is the HP Magic Giveaway, which is underway as of November 28th. More information can be found at this topic, which will be updated very soon with further information.

The second contests, is for the chance to win two Seagate FreeAgent external hard drives. More information about this contest can be found here.

Instructions for transferring data to disk media (for which the casual term "burn" has gained acceptance) will depend on the software used. Most of these applications will have precise instructions in their HELP file.

John

It is interesting to see the connexions between usages of "to burn"

http://www.bartleby.com/61/31/B0563100.html

The AHD (4th ed.) includes as the last useage entry:"14. To record data on (a compact disk)." I suppose this usage arose by analogy to burning a brand on cattle or to engrave by burning into wood or soft metal.
