That was the feeling I had and that is probably why you are having problems now.

I wish I knew how to help but I don't, just thought I would ask so that someone who can help would have the right information to go on.

I've got a few more ideas, but to be honest, I'm not sure how they'll work out. Anyway, here goes nothing.

This one is a registry-based fix, so you'll need to backup your registry, in case something happens (warning, in the case that you do NOT backup your registry and should damage be caused, it can be extremely hard to repair damage caused):
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • Install ERUNT
    • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
    • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.

  • Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Now that the registry is backed up, navigate to this registry key (if you need more precise instructions, let me know):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In the right pane, look for "LogonType" and make sure that entry is set to 1.

Glad I could help out. I'm just sorry we're not getting anywhere with this.

Let's try something else.
Please download TweakUI for here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...ppowertoys.mspx

Install the program and run it.

In the left pane, click "Logon" (do not expand it)
You'll see a "Settings" box with a number of checkboxes. Make sure that your account is set to show on welcome screen.

Does that fix the problem?

Edit:
Also, for the registry fix above, did you reboot your computer?
