When I open the task manager it shows 15 svchost.exe processes running. Is this normal it seems like alot, I've experienced alot of virus attacks lately and I'm trying to learn about all the stuff running on my laptop to try and better the performance of it. Also on the startup menu what is dsactivate?

Right click and select "end process" for the selected program to terminate it.
Also, 15 svchost.exe processes is a bit on the high end, but not anything crazy. If you are suspecting that you might have a virus, I'd suggest that you run a scan with your antivirus, just in case.
Cheers,
