There does not seem to be an adapter on my old 2.5inch hdd because it looks exactly like my new 160GB 2.5inch IDE hard drive.

I talked to memory express and it looks like I will need this:

Now I'm confused.
You do have a laptop, correct ?
The adapter you posted the link to is to mount a laptop HD in a tower type case.

Do the connectors on the new drive & the old one look the same ?

I'm begining to suspect you got the wrong HD.

Will you post a link to the one you bought ?

Yes, I have a laptop that I wanted to upgrade the hdd for.

Yes, that is correct. I am going to purchase an adaptor to mount the 2.5inch IDE into a 3.5inch IDE bracket of my tower top desktop PC.

The new seagate and my old 2.5inch hdd have the same configuration of pins.

OK, I misunderstood.
I thought you were saying the new Seagate wouldn't fit the laptop.

I now see you are wanting to put a ;aptop HD in a tower so you are correct, to do that you will need the adapter kit.

Good news: I put the 2.5inch into my desktop tower PC and installed windows XP on to it, when the 2.5inch hdd is inside the desktop tower PC. Internet has not been tested yet so I will make it a wired connection tomorrow (it is wireless right now).

Bad news: When I put the 2.5inch hdd into my laptop, every time I turn the laptop on, it just has a blank screen. I can't even see the bios/setup/boot screen.

Conclusion: I think this may be due to conflicting video card drivers for my laptops 6100 nvidia integrated card and my desktop tower PC's 6150LE nvidia integrated graphics card.

This may have happened because I did not uninstall the 6150LE driver from my desktop power PC, before proceeding with the installation of XP onto my new 2.5inch hdd using the desktop power PC. I did uninstall my 7600GT driver from the desktop tower PC but I thought I had to keep the 6150LE driver because then I would not see anything.

Video drivers wouldn't stop you from being able to see a post ,or BIOS, screen.
You can access the BIOS with no hard drive installed as the unit uses very basic, generic, video until Windows loads.
When Windows tries to start video driver conflicts can cause problems !

I see. Well I must do a bit more trouble shooting to find out the problem.

It is just weird. The 2.5inch hdd won't even spin, when inside my laptop. The hdd spinning indicator light won't turn on. But the 2.5inch hdd works fine, when in my PC. Do you think I should get one of those usb/cd-dvd drive adaptors so I can just boot through the laptop, instead of going through this whole cumbersome process about using my tower PC to boot my new hdd?

You have issues that indicate BIG problems.
You say you get no video, post or otherwise
Now you say the HD doesn't even spin when installed.
I'ts begining to sound like you have a motherboard issue.
Could be a faulty/loose power adapter connector or a bad motherboard .
