Hi,

First and foremost this has been a great forum site so this is when i turn to the gurus of the world

My computer is starting to take strange turns i wanna get a hold of it before it gets a complete hold of me.
So trying to kill a few birds with one stone here we go

P4 3Ghz
2Gb Ram
Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit SP2

( 1. ) My first problem is when windows starts after everything has started a Windows Desktop window opens up which is annoying and hasn't done that before.

( 2. ) When i right click i get a message box appear Windows Installer for a few seconds saying Preparing To Install no matter what type of file or folder iam going to browse

( 3. ) I have noticed the computer is getting slower dont know whats going on but i noticed in task manager that the Processes are high up to 91 the Cpu Useage 75% and physical memory 67% so it takes a while to go from one folder to another and so on with other applications and websites.

( 4. ) All of a sudden cant install these Windows Update but other updates ok so far here they are

Hello,

Have you tried disabling a few items at startup? start ball/orb > search > msconfig > startup(tab)
You could also try disabling a few unused services. start ball/orb > search > services.msc http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm will help you decide what is needed and what isn't

Problem number one on my post is fixed now we still got 2,3 and 4 to go. Have run ccleaner and Defrag also have used Tuneup2009 and Iobit Defrag and there Advanced System Care 3 but still no luck in fixing up the other issues.

The event viewer may give more information.

1. Click the start ball/orb
2. click the search box and type Event Viewer.
3. Open the event viewer and expand the Windows logs section.
4. Search through the the groups (Application, Security etc) look for errors and warnings.
5. Double click on an entry and click the copy button.
6. Paste the results in to a post.

Thank you for the reply. Had a quick look over the Event Viewer and there more than a few errors and warnings it will take some time to paste all the logs. Do you require all of them or just a a certain lot. And security in Event Viewer has got Audit Failure do you require them ones as well

I don't need all the event viewer entries, typically just the ones between a system start up and a system shut down. For example, <powered on PC><open a few programs><shut down pc>

Also have installed Sysinternals Autoruns if that will help us sort out the issues

Most of those errors shouldn't contribute to the slow down. I'm more concerned about the 93 processes running in the task manager. Can you uninstal any of the programs?

What programs should we look at uninstalling and will Autoruns help at all. We might give some a go if not required

I would uninstal as many programs as I could. Autoruns could be used to stop some programs from starting, but the removal of some of the programs would be best. Take for example itunes, it is a popular music player software, however it loads three processes in to the task manager even though you may not want to listen to music.

Uninstalling applications is down to the user. I can't advise what specific applications you can remove, as I don't know what applications you are using or need. I would start by removing old applications that you are no longer using, or use very rarely.
