Hi

We have an HP laptop, running Vista. It was put on 'sleep" yesterday and will not do anything now, just a black screen. Nothing at all......

I have removed the battery, left it unplugged, even tried recovery disc, but it just doesn't do anything, apart from the power lights being on the keypad. Can't even boot it in safe mode because the screen is blank

Any ideas?

When you hit the Power button, do you hear anything? Do you hear the disc trying to run or your fan turning on? If that’s not happening, chances are it might be related to the power supply or motherboard.

Not sure about the fan, but the disc does run for about 10 seconds. The blue "running" light stays on for the same amount of time.

Thanks for the reply.....

Try hitting your F8 button when it seems like things are booting, maybe that will get you into the boot menu. Worth a shot at least.

Hve tried that as well, but nothing at all happens. It just doesn't seem to be running, even though the lights are on the keyboard.

The best way i can describe it is that it's stuck on sleep......

Can you connect another display to the laptop? Could the screen be malfunctioning?

Tried that as well.

Seems as though the HP 2200 has a habit of doing this, according to online write-ups, and also on HP site. Have now got a feeling it could be the motherboard - if so, is this an expensive repair?

Here's the HP support link, just in case you need it: http://support.hp.com/.
