BleepingComputer.com: Default "Read Only" affecting programs?

I understand that by default all Windows XP files are set to "read only" although it doesn't affect anything. I tried to boot up a game today through the program files but it came up with the following message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Although I'm not sure if the "Read Only" check box is affecting this, every time I turn off the Read Only on the folder of the program, the check box reappears. SD scan came up clear, and I am the computer admin. Any suggestions?

Read Only...no longer has the significance it used to have, IMO. originally, read-only files were used to distinguish them from files which were meant to be edited or changed in some way.

Files are read only today...probably because they were copied from a CD or DVD. These media are read-only, therefore...copying a file from same will result in such.

If the attribute bothers you (I don't think it does anything, myself), you can always change it.
