I am missing the "Open Dialogue Box". Some of the settings on my computer are different since I got it back from the computer shop last week.
Usually whenever I load a CD, MOvie DVD or insert Photo Media such as SD Cards, a Dialogue Box would open up in the middle of the screen and ask which Program I would like to open with. For eg., a DVD, I would select the Power DVD Application and then it would open the media in that program so I can watch the movie. If I was loading photos, I would select Photoshop Elements.
However now the handy little automatic box has disappeared! and I have to open them in other ways, such as in "My Computer". If I could have an explanation of how to get that box to pop up automatically at the start when I first insert the media into the system, I would be very grateful. I am sure it is probably very simple, if you know how.
Thank you for your help.

That box should only appear once per file type...the first time that a file appears on your system which does not have a valid program associated with it for opening.
Once a program is selected, that particular type of file should always be opened by that program, if the user has so designated.

Thank you for your reply but I still don't really unstand how to fix this! The "open" dialogue box has always popped up in the last 4 years since I have had the computer. I don't know the file names of the DVDS or the CDs and don't understand how to associate the program which should start up when I insert the media into the computer. I;ve never had to do this in the past as the box has always appeared.
I read the attached link and I understand that you select a file in Windows and then associate which program you want to start with that file but I don't get how I get the correct programs to start up when I am just putting in DVDS, CDS and photo discs. Do these items have file names, I don't know what they are?
Could you explain further. For eg, what do I do to get the DVD to open up in Power DVD automatically if there is a way.
A simple explanation would be appreciated!. Thank you.
