I have a D-Link DIR625 router. The router is installed between my desktop computerand modem. This system has worked fine for a couple of years but recently I noticed that I was losing my internet connection while on the laptop. The connection would automatically return usually within minutes but it was becoming a pain!

At first I assumed that the problem was my cable company. Finally when I lost the connection I booted up my desktop and found that I had a connection there but not on the laptop. So my problem is not the cable company but my router.

So my questions are: Is this type intermittent problem common? Does this mean my router needs to be replaced? Any recommendations for a new one? Opinions on my DLINK? Thanks for your responses!

What makes you think the router is the problem?

How many ports on this router?

Why not simply move the connection (PC to router) to verify that it actually is a port on the router?

Intermittent connection problems on my systems are usually caused by my kicking one of the wires loose...and taking 2 days to bother to check if such is the case .

There appears to be 4 ports on the router. I just assumed ( I know, I know) that if the desktop worked then online then that only lef the router. Right now a cable from the dekstop computer to the router is in port 4. DO you mean just swith it to another port??

Yes...in fact, switch all wires in, so that you test each port (with each computer).

That should either affirm or refute your original premise .

I tried to update the driver and the "wizard" told me I had the most current one. Then I moved the connecting cable from the port it was in to another port. I guess now I wait and see if the problem persists. If it does do I now assume bad router? Other ideas?

I find that...it's smarter to pursue one path to a conclusion...before deciding to investigate a totally different trail.

Have had no further problems since changing ports on the router. Fingers crossed. Thanks again!
