New HD 6 weeks old, running SLOW Toshiba Laptop problems.

I replaced my HD on this laptop 6 weeks ago. It ran 'normal' (not fast) for 4 weeks and now is back to the slow/snooze level of working.

Any ideas?

Also, when it 'shuts off' from non-use, I cannot get it back by pressing any key, or anything! I have to hold down the power key and go through the 'you did not sign off correctly' stint.
