I broke a generation 3 30GB iPod last October and I still have the HDD. Is there any sort of adapter available for the cable/ribbon leading from the HDD that I could plug in to my computer? Or some way to turn it to a 30 GB flashdrive or something?

What do you exacly mean with "broken", as when you connect it to your PC, does windows still list the ipod's HDD as and storage drive in the explorer? If so, you could simply wipe everything on it, and there's your external HDD. Though if this is false, i'm afraid you have to screw (i dont see any screws in mine) or open in otherwise, when you would have to take out the HDD, and probably make a cable at it to make it work.

I think, you should take the input-adaper (the bottom of your ipod), and connect this to your PC using the cable you got when you bought your ipod.

Note: i have never done this before, I just think this might be the solution

Thanks Garmanma, that's the link I needed. I decided to do some more digging of my own once I discovered it was a 1.8 ZIF drive and I found a enclosure that will convert it form ZIF to USB.
