Well I am back, and I have some really good news and like I promise before; thumbup.gif

Well, I am going to shut this computer down and try those discs and see what my end result will be and perhaps come back tomorrow with something to share.

I did test out the CDs on this computer and they worked just fine. So, I did some more research and some technical checking on the computer in question and it turns out that I was having a hardware issue as apposed to a software issue. I recently received my free copy of Ubuntu 9.04 from Canonical and I ran a mem test and determined that I had 2 bad memory chips. On the upside Ubuntu runs great on 512mb as well. I removed the offending chips and was able to reinstall the software with no other issues. I was even able to put the Edubuntu addon and now my son is a full fledged Linux user and he is enjoying himself while playing with his new Linux pc as a matter of fact he is currently drawing with TUX paint and he loves to draw. I wonder if he is the first 9 year old linux user. I hope. Anywho, Thanks to your help and advice and the research that I have done I am a satisfied Linux user and am converting my wife's computer to an ex-windows machine soon. She sees that our son is enjoying it and perhaps I see an inquiling towards that possibility. thumbup.gif

Thank you so much for all your help MadDawg, you are the BOMB thumbup.gif

It was the RAM, huh? Hehe, I never would have guessed it.

In any case, I'm very glad that I could help, and I'm very glad you got your computer working (and free from Microsofts clutches whistling.gif ) thumbup.gif

Yep, whooda THUNK it?! hysterical.gif When I ran the memtest I just waited for the results and there it was. I am going to test all my spare DIMMS to see if they are not bad either. thumbup.gif I didn't even think that it would be so simple. I have always told my wife that as a Tech myself and other techs to do the same and start diagnosing the worse case scenario when it could have just been something as simple as running a memtest. All I can say is 'DOH!' crazy.gif

Free at last free at last! you know what I mean. It is a great day when a whole family could share in the happiness of using the TUX software with no boundaries. Well, I still have a couple of computers that I need to convert or convince (my wife & daughter). But inspite of it all there is going to be some changes in this house that is for sure. Well got to get back to my computer and play some Alien Arena with my boy who is connected to our new home network. By the way when I received my new Ubuntu CD from Canonical I also received a copy of their Ubuntu Server OS too. Sweeeeet. thumbup.gif So I have our server up and running as well with no apparent issues. Everything is good for now and I want to take the time to thank you again. thumbup2.gif
