my firefox likes to close for no reason. can someone help me?

here is the error i get

From the looks of things, your version of Firefox is horribly out dated.
I'd suggest uninstalling it and installing the latest version found here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

do i have to use the control panel to uninstall it or will it uninstall when i install the new version.

You need to manually uninstall it. In fact, I would suggest a total uninstall which would include removing the profile. I would suggest backing up your bookmarks first. Please read the following for how to do a clean Firefox uninstall and reinstall.

That way, you'll have all of your Bookmarks back.
Now for the uninstall.
Uninstall your current version of Firefox from Add/Remove programs.
Then navigate to:
C:\ Documents and Settings \ "your user name" \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles
Delete the Profiles folder (or send it to the Recycle Bin as a backup).
Then navigate to:
C: \ Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox, and delete that folder.
Then reinstall Firefox.
Don't forget to replace your Bookmark.html file.

i got the new version and i am still having issues with it crashing on me

Did you do a clean install? In other words, did you manually remove the profile? I'm double-checking on that, because a corrupt profile can cause major problems.
If you did manually remove it when you uninstalled Firefox, I'd like you to run Firefox in the Safe Mode version. You will see it in Start Menu. Be sure to close down the regular version before doing so.
Start ==> All Programs ==> Mozilla Firefox ==> Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).
The Safe Mode version runs without the extensions or add-ons. If you have no crashing problems running the Safe Mode version, then we know it has something to do with one or more of the extensions or add-ons.
If you DIDN'T remove the profile, uninstall Firefox again, and this time be sure to navigate to the profile folder and remove it as well before reinstalling. The instructions for doing so are in my previous post.

Okay. Having verified that, please run Firefox in the Safe Mode version and see if the crashing still occurs. I provided the directions for that in my previous post.
