hi,

My Dell Inspiron 640m laptop recently got infected with a heur.invader software, now all my programs are completely stuffed. I tried removing the Virus with AVG 8.5 but it didnt work and I tried with Kaspersky 2009. Kaspersky found the infections and said I needed a restart. I restarted only to have Vista crash on me and had to do a system restore just to get it to turn on.

At this point I figured it would be easiest to just reinstall vista as I have everything that is important backed up on an external hard drive. So I put in my re installation DVD. The process started fine until it said I needed a reboot.

On reboot I got this error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The NT Initial Command Process system terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000001 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The System has been shut down.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction in either removing the virus completely or on how to fix this error so I can reinstall easily.

Hi, when you tried to reinstall Vista did you format drive c: before continuing with the install? With this error you will need to format the c: drive as part of the process of reinstalling Vista.

Thank you for the quick reply. The help is appreciated, but I dont see an option to format my C: drive.

In Computer management the option to format "OS (C:)" is greyed out.

And on the installation I dont see it in the tools below:

EDIT: Found out how to from a youtube video. Vista is now installing on the laptop. It is Expanding Files. Will post back with the results.

Thanks.
