I'm getting a new custom built computer, which i want to use generally and for games. Thinking about this makeup below.

Do i need a sound card or NET card with this motherboard?

Also, i want to wait for Windows 7 to come out, and I don't really want to pay for XP/Vista I'm only going to use for a few months. I have to buy this comp soon, so what can i do? eg Linux/Windows 7 RC

Finally... is that a good makeup? Any advice?

I don't know where you got your prices but all I can say is, YIKES !

On the Windows 7 you can download Windows 7 RC1 & run it until 7 is actually released.

Yeah, unfortunately I live in Australia, and i don't think newegg ship overseas.

I've live in Australia too.
Where are you getting the prices from. MSY @ msy.com.au and Umart normally have the cheapest parts. Although they have really bad customer support.

I assume it is from msy because they charge $70 for building. Am I right?

Instead of going for a core i7, downgrade it to a E8400 and get a gtx 275. By the way, some of your prices are off according to the parts list on msy.com.au.

Also, with the Z-4's, I think onboard sound should be fine. Plus, instead of 2 harddrives get a 1TB W.D harddrive for AU$124. For the motherboard, go for a ASUS P5QL-SE.

As for the OS, try opensuse for a few months. It is relatively straightforward to use. Just ask if your want further advice.

Couple of things here:
1. I would suggest the i7 over the E8400, more from personal experience.
2. I would suggest sticking with the two harddrives, especially if you are a gamer, 1TB drives are nutoriously slow cycle rate because of the large size of the disk and lags slightly when trying to write info. Depends what you are using it for.
3. If your going to be getting a nvidia card, give nForce mobo's a try, I have found they always seem to give better performance then mixing and matching when using an nVidia GPU.

Oh ok.

I personally have no experience with the i7. Seems like it is a good choice.
I am not sure about the harddrives. I am not a very serious gamer (cs, warcraft and cod4 every now and again.)
