I'm running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3.
I'm not entirely sure how I got infected, but a wierd virus worked its way into my system in the middle of the night.
It created bogus .exe files, registry run keys, and It sent my internet explorer out to a proxy server, effectively disabling my internet.
I fixed all of these problems, but regedit.exe and HijackThis.exe will not run. If I rename the file to anything other than "regedit.exe", such as changing the extension to ".com", or even naming it "regedit2.exe" it will run fine. The same is true for "HijackThis.exe"

Here's the log file from HijackThis after i renamed it:

Nevermind. I managed to fix it using Spybot Search & Destroy, and by using Malware Bytes. Apparently there are registry keys to blacklist certain files names, and It included some of the major anti-virus/firewall programs like Zonealarm. I don't know where the keys were but they're gone and now my system is clean.

This effectively closes the thread.
