Hello

I have a problem with my machine details of which I can post if required.

I have XP sp3 and a working (tested on a differing machine - and used to work fine on this machine) western digital external harddrive. However I now keep getting a warning saying

Windows was unable to save all the data for file G:\$Mft. the data has been lost. This error may be cause by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try and save this file elsewhere.

I then can't gain access to the drive.

I know that the HD is fine as it's ok on any other machine just not this one?

Is there a way to fix this by clearing something?

Many thanks for any help

You can clear your USB controllers in Device Manager...and then reboot (they will reinstall) and see if that has any effect.
