I have copied a pasted you code direct from the view source, i think i've got it this time, well what i mean is that it works.
try taking to DOCTYPE out from the start and save it, then view it again... all of a sudden it starts floating...
also i'd removed the extra <td> in the middle of the menu and replaced it with a <br>

you'll find this on that dynamic drive site i gave a link to before, on the demo page for this menu, they also don't have a DOCTYPE, but if you look at the other menu's those page's have a DOCTYPE when you view the source.
Looks like, if you want this menu, you'll have to cut the DOCTYPE.

I'll give it a try today and see what happens. Thanks for the help. I'll keep you posted, uploading the changes and providing the link. I thought it might have something to do with the coding outside of the script.

I've uploaded the changes to the same location as previously posted. I took out the DOCTYPE line from the top of the page, and now the menu bar floats.
It's altered my style sheet, though. Some of the font styles are not being recognized (notice bottom of the page, particularly in FF). I've also noticed that in IE7 the page has the ability to scroll vertically literally forever (even though there is no body content), showing only the floating nav bar on the left. I'm beginning to wonder if this is worth it.
Thanks for the help!
