So my computer had been acting up, and I decided to shut it off and turn it back on. To my dismay when I tried to load it back up, it went through the checking ntfs screen, but when it got to the end, it just froze. I restarted it and eventually got the error that my ntoskrnl.exe file was corrupt. I put in my Vista installation disk to try and do a chkdsk, but when I tried to load from cd, the files loaded, and then I got a BSOD saying driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. I cannot start in safe mode. I am currently on my laptop, and I really do not know what to do at this point. If I were able to reformat, I would, but at this point, I can not even do that. I suspect it is a hardware problem, but I have never even heard of this happening before.

I just tried to load it without certain sticks of my RAM, still no dice. I really need to get this rectified and avoid a wipe if at all possible.

Just reset the bios...I can boot from cd now, but the startup repair cannot repair it. It says the Root Cause Is Found: MBR is corrupt.

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Tried to use bootrec.exe, I got no results. I think I may just reformat after I do one final chkdsk.
