When I log on and the desktop comes up, a message box appears saying Windows installer, installing. But it doesn't say what is being installed and it goes off the screen after a few seconds. Then about 5 minutes later a message box comes up saying: Error loading C:\program files\common files pareto logic the specified module could not be found. I click on OK and it disappears.

What is this? It doesn't seem to be affecting anything so should I get rid of it? If so how do I do that?

Apparently you have aquired something from ParetoLogic software that is trying to launch/install during startup.

Go to the Contro Panel
Open Add/Remove
See if you can find something with "Pareto" in the name.
If you do, & it's something you didn't install intenyionally, remove it.

ParetoLogic is a data recovery program.
They also provide utility software, driver updates,
and an anti-virus program.

http://www.paretologic.com/products/index.aspx

The program was likely installed on your system at some
point, then uninstalled. This isn't
malware, a virus,
or any other bad thing.
It's probably trying
to run a scheduled update. To get rid of it,
go to Control Panel.
Open up Scheduled Tasks.
Find the entry for ParetoLogic Registration and
delete it.
To delete, right click on the entry, then choose Delete.
