Ubuntu 9.04....how do you print something?
The printer works as I've printed a test page, but
I don't see how you print anything else...

That is to say, how to print something on the
screen....

What exactly are you trying to print? I don't have a printer set up, but if you just don't know how to print something, I might be able to help.

Let's say I want to print exactly what I see on my
monitor right now....I hate to bring up Windows again
but I was able to print whatever was on the screen
byusing the print key on the keyboard and then going
to the Paint program and printing it from there.

Okay, go to Applications > Accessories > Take Screenshot. The window that comes up is pretty self-explanatory. Alternatively, hitting printscreen automatically takes a full snapshot of the (current) desktop. You can then open the saved image and print it by going to File > Print.... (After you open the image, of course)

Works ok except for the actual printing...
I get an error message That says
ERROR PRINTING
Too many failed attempts.

Hmmm, I'll try it once more and then shut down and try again tomorrow.

I've just set up my printer and tried this myself, but I didn't get this error. I don't know what could be the problem, but I would suggest restarting the printer and the computer.

I re-booted and your instructions worked to a T.

I need a lot of that...I did get one more of those
failed too many times error but on the second
try it worked..Go figure.

Have one other problem also...got an Applet pop up
that i have an indexing error. Couldn't get rid of it
so I elected to reindex and that said it would take
a long time so I'll get into that tomorrow.

Alright, no problem. I'll look up the indexing issue at school tomorrow. Have a look at this thread if the reindexing doesn't work.

I don't see anything, searching around the net, that makes
sense to me about the indexing except that Ubuntu is looking in to
it for a future "fix". I did find this and have since done what it
says here and apparently it works.

"Go to Menu System> Preferences> Indexing Preferences

* Uncheck the two boxes "Enable indexing" and "Enable watching"
Ah, comes the dawn...I think I have a fair idea of the indexing and tracker
search....much like other programs that kind of stays a bit ahead of
you as you're typing in a web site etc. I'm stuck for words here,
it gives you options as you're typing. I get it...I'm going to disable it
until the bug issue is resolved...If I'm right or wrong about this,
please let me know....

I don't really know what it is, but it sounds like caching, which just makes the computer a little faster. I wouldn't worry much about it.
