i backed up 99.9% of everything i needed, but i got careless and i forgot to back up just one thing...my favorites....right now im on a new windows install on the same hard drive as the old one, and i just want to know if there are any recovery programs that I might try? How True is the whole, its never really deleted off your hard drive thing?

that's only when you delete by normal lets say a document or other things like that

Its worth a shot to try GetDataBack, Easis, or RecoverMy Files, or some other program. I have pulled data from formatted drives before. You won't get it all, but you stand a fair chance of finding your favorites. Formatting doesn't erase files.

Easus Data recovery works with formatted drives too, while you can scan for free you can not rescue the files without paying for it. Also FYI: If you want to erase a drive completely you will need to use a Low level format utility such as Killdisk or physically destroy the drive.
