My computer is a Acer Aspire 5000. The CD player will not work, it does not read the drive. The DVD's play fine. I have tried to repair. I also deleted the driver and rebooted the computer and let it reload the driver and it still will not work. Any suggestions? I have some software that I must load and it is on a CD.
Thanks
Gail

What version of Windows do you have ?
Vista has a known issue with some "filters" that will cause a CD drive to not work.
If you have XP or an older version of Windows & DVD's will play but it won't read a CD the CD read head/lens has probably failed.
CD's & DVD's have sperate read lenses.
One can work & the other be bad.
The only fix is a different drive.
