BleepingComputer.com: Problem with new memory cards

I have previously browsed topics and found useful information on how to fix problems with computers. I have an HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop that I recently upgraded from 512k to 2gig of memory and I am having problems. When I first installed the memory the computer got a lot faster and my programs seemed to work faster as well. Now I am one week later and my laptop actually seems to be slowing down. I have checked to make sure I do not have any malware or spyware on my system and I also do update my virus protection daily but I am not sure what is going on. Anyone have any ideas what could be going on? I could really use some help and I would really appreciate any help I can get.

How did you check for malware ?
What anti-virus program do you use ?

I have Adaware 08 that I update at least once a week and I also have Macafee antivirus software that is updated daily. I am also using Malwarebytes.

Right click on the taskbar in the middle where there are no icons
On the menu click Task Manager
Click on the Processes tab
Locate ad aware & hilite it
Click on end process
End the process
close the Task Manager
Try the computer.

Did it speed up a lot ?

I uninstalled the newest version of Ad-Aware & quit using it because it's turned into a bloated resorces hog.

Yeah, I have disabled Adaware in the past and I have tried it just now but that did nothing as far as speeding up the speed. Adaware actually ran pretty normal before I installed the new memory.

If the memory worked OK for a week I doubt it went bad.
Generally bad memory doesn't just slow a computer down.
It cause freezes,restarts, & "blue screens" but it doesn't all of a sudden make a computer slower.

You have something you have installed or picked up [not knowing it] that is slowing the unit down.

Macafee used to be half way decent.
I have absolutly NO faith in the newer versions.
I've fixed too many computers that had Macafee that were infected with viruses.

Last time you ran a chkdsk /r on the system...and then ran defrag?

Well I ran the disk check and it turned out okay. I have even swapped out the new RAM with the old 512k and still having problems with performance. I have run Spybot and everything comes back clean. Could I have picked up a worm that is not being picked up with my anti virus? If so can anyone recommend a program to check for this?

Please try a couple of these free online scanners to see if anything has slipped by your protection:
(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)
